It is good but I did have an issue where it somehow reset itself to factory settings one night while I was asleep. Woke up and was extremely frustrated, as I have a smart home and am overly addicted to my Wifi. Other than that, it’s a good router and I recommend it.Update as of 2/14/18 (and downgrade from 5 stars to one star) the return window has closed and the router is already a dud. I purchased this 4 months ago and it is already a dud that is completely unusable. It won’t even power up correctly. The power LED doesn’t even turn on when it is plugged in, even though the LAN lights do (thus it’s not a problem with the outlet but must be a problem with the device). Since the device won’t power on, the computer cannot detect it on ethernet so it’s clearly a hardware problem. Don’t waste your money.Read more 2 people found this helpful Helpful Comment Report abuseInsatiable5.0 out of 5 starsUpdate the Firmware YourselfJuly 28, 2015Verified PurchaseUse with Comcast Xfinity and consistantly reach through-put speeds in excess of 125 Mbps down while using AC wireless. Wireless N has reached a throughput of 40 Mbps down.Firmware updates are evil. Wait a week or two before updating them…and do it manually. Asus has a problem of pushing out firmware updates before testing them thoroughly. Both times I let my router automatically download and install the firmware, the router crapped itself. The second time bricked the whole router. I worked with Asus to get a replacement, since it was still covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.Asus customer service was a joke. The ladies that answer the phone know absolutely nothing about the product. Example: The first time I called them they told me that the router had to be connected to the internet in order to access the admin page of the router (192.168.1.1). That was my first clue they were going to be worthless. After hours on the phone with them, They finally agreed to send me RMA info to get a new (Refurbished) router.5 Starts for the router, 1 for Asus customer service.Read more 3 people found this helpful Helpful Comment Report abusedpidduck4.0 out of 5 starsAlmost….December 4, 2014Verified PurchaseI almost love this router. There’s a very noticeable increase in network ‘speed.’ I have multiple high definition IP cameras, Apple TV, PS4, MBP, TV, network printer, VoIP adaptor, iPhone, iPad, and a server all sharing this router. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for someone that’s looking for a ‘plug and play’ type router; if you’re lucky, the setup utility will get you through a basic setup, but that didn’t happen in my case. Here’s my story:So, old ASUS router dies (apparently) after 3 years. I was so happy with it that I stayed with ASUS. Fired up the Amazon app on my iPhone 6 Plus and ordered this router with 1 day shipping (I NEED my internet!). Well, in the one day it took for this router to arrive, the old router came back to life! Anyway, I excitedly unpacked my new toy and started to set it up. The setup utility automatically launches when one connects to the router wirelessly; however, in my case the utility failed and I was left to configure everything manually (which I prefer anyway). Within about 10 minutes I had everything setup, configured, and running beautifully…except for that nagging exclamation point informing me that the latest firmware was available. So, I click the button to upgrade and the upgrade fails; I’m told that the router can’t reach the server, and I should try back after I reconnect to the internet (I never lost my connection). Anyway, being somewhat technically inclined, I go to the ASUS support site and download the latest firmware (the existing firmware was very out of date). After upgrading, everything was running beautifully again….except for one thing: the 5ghz channel was gone. I spent an hour checking every setting before searching the FAQ without success. Then I decided to make the dreaded call.Like many other tech companies, ASUS evidently has chosen to outsource their customer service (the Philippines). Well, I’m on hold for about 25 minutes. Then it takes me about 15 minutes to explain the problem. After running through the basics, we get to the firmware issue. He asks what version I have. I tell him I have the latest version, and give him the number. ‘Why don’t you have the latest version?’ he asks. I do, I reply. Then he gives me an Url to download the ‘latest’ firmware. Well, it was the latest…for an entirely different router. Strangely enough, it did not work.So then I’m told I’ll have to return the router. I explained that I’d had this one expedited because I NEED MY INTERNET. lol. I was told that it would take a while for a replacement and given a case number. And the entire time he’s telling me I need to return the router, I’m asking him if I can’t just roll the firmware back to the original version. Finally I basically had to rudely cut him off. ‘Yes, you can try that.’ he said. ‘but I doubt it’ll work because you broke it when you did the upgrade. The file was probably corrupt.’So I downloaded what I thought was the shipped firmware. Bam, everything worked again. So the tech asked if he’d fixed everything and whether I had anymore questions. I’m like, really? Anyway, after getting off the phone with him, I started downloading and installing newer versions of firmware, and every time everything worked beautifully, until the very last version. The moral of the story: if you upgrade your firmware to the latest version and you lose the 5ghz band, install a previous version!Read more 15 people found this helpful Helpful Comment Report abuseAaron5.0 out of 5 starsA great Tomato performer but not fastest in some casesFebruary 2, 2017Verified PurchaseI can easily max my 112Mbps/11Mbps line with this unit over wifi, and it works great with flashed Tomato. The only issue is that it does not have the horsepower to run Tomato’s QoS throttling that fast, and can only handle 68Mbps/8Mbps with this feature enabled. This is to be expected for its 600mhz processor.Wifi range is excellent, and though it may take some tweaking, there were no issues (caused by my area) that this unit could not overcome. Its 5G radio reached areas of my house my last router could only reach with 2G.Remember that if you are using Shibby’s Tomato, you need to use the ‘restore factory defaults’ after wiping nvram to gain access to the 5G radio.Read more 2 people found this helpful Helpful Comment Report abuseSee all 186 reviewsWrite a customer review Customers also shopped forPage 1 of 1 Start overPage 1 of 1 This shopping feature will continue to load items.
